From a Rivals Recruiting guru.

I spoke last night with an assistant Coach at Cal regarding Chris Martin. He flat out said they couldn't wait to get rid of him, and Tedford was very likely going to kick him off the team. In the less than 2 months he had been there, he was talking back to coaches, getting in fights with players, being an ass in the classroom, etc. THey said after 2 weeks when he would not listen to anyone about changing his ways, they knew they had a problem. His transfer had nothing to do with "bad influences" - he is the bad influence.

See Tedford's comments in the linked article - pretty telling when he says he was a detriment to the team.

I'm not certain going to Florida is the right move for Martin - he really needs to be somewhere where he can be taken care of a bit.

Tedford said the loss of top recruit Chris Martin, a linebacker who transferred to Florida, "wasn't a big blow. It wasn't a good fit. We wish him well. It wasn't working out right. I don't want to have someone here who is a detriment to the team."

We'll see how he pans out...Percy Harvin was supposedly a "problem kid" in high school and he ended up straight and narrow at UF (Gators aren't responsible if he smoked weed in between leaving UF and the combine ).

The kids who were problems before and stayed problems after arriving all pretty much washed out. So, time will tell on Martin.
