GASF Hall of Fame Catcher Discussion Thread
Catchers in the Hall of Fame, 16 which just happens to be the number we need. Are these the right 16 though?
Johnny Bench
Gary Carter
Ivan Rodriguez
Carlton Fisk
Mike Piazza
Yogi Berra
Bill Dickey
Gabby Hartnett
Ted Simmons
Mickey Cochrane
Buck Ewing
Roger Bresnahan
Roy Campanella
Ernie Lombardi
Ray Schalk
Rick Ferrell
Here's a Link to the JAWS table for Catchers, so you can do some easy research. I like sabrmetrics but I know I can look at the dWAR component and say, that doesn't really jive with what I remembering seeing play out on the field. I am also skeptical of Gold Glove awards, prime example being Rafael Palmeiro winning the Gold Glove at 1B in 1999 when he only played 28 games there while DHing 128 games.
