So, this proves the MWC is better than the PAC-12 right?

The MWC beat the PAC-12 in the Las Vegas Bowl, so the MWC is better than the PAC-12.... Or maybe the fact that it was the MWC Champ vs PAC-12 #5 actually needs to be considered in evaluating what the bowl results mean.

I don't know the best way to compare that ... I've suggested a couple of ideas in the past. I don't think just straight winning percentage tells the whole story, .... I think you have to somehow account for relative ranking between the conferences as well....

I corrected my title this tracking for ESPN Bowl Challenge Cup

Anything else read into was not suggested by me

I only was using this as posting to track the conference W/L record throughout the bowl season

FYI

Bowl Challenge Cup
ESPN created the Bowl Challenge Cup in 2002 for the conference that had the best college football bowl record among Division I Football Bowl Subdivision conferences. The Mountain West Conference has won it four times, more than any other conference, by finishing with bowl game records of 2-1 in 2004–05, 4-1 in 2007–08, 4-1 in 2009–10, and 4-1 in 2010–11

Since this is meaningless stat I'm posting

Why don't we ask the Mountain West Conference to gave back the four ESPN Bowl Challenge Cup they've won

Or better yet call the conference office and tell them its meaningless stat?

I don't think the ESPN Cup is worthless ... it actually tells us something pretty valuable about the conferences. Specifically, I think it says who is BETTER than their bowl EXPECTATIONS. It says who is undervalued in the Bowls and who is Overvalued in the bowls.

If your win percentage in the ESPN cup is .500, that means that conference is exactly as strong as the expectation for that conference. If you are below that, you are not producing teams as strong as your conference's reputation or expectation, and if you are above .500 then you are producing teams better than expectation.

Yeah, MWC is probably been UNDERVALUED more than any other conference in the Bowls. And the PAC-12 is probably overvalued in the bowls, relative to the actual team strength that they have produced in the last few years.

It's not "worthless" ... but it certainly doesn't tell you who the strongest conference is ... but it tells you who is under or over valued ....

And that all I was doing was having a tracking for conference W/L as the bowls progressed so we could see who will win this year Bowl Challenge Cup. IMO, a conference should be proud of winning that, Don't know all sudden there was something being read into this as to W/L says who the strongest.

Not when Fresno St beaten 2nd place PAC 12 South Arizona St 7-5, Or Utah St has beaten fading C-USA UNT team already talking about once again wait till next year (funny I read that after Army beat them in bowl last year) would ever dream of making that suggestion. All It says it this point MWC is 2-0 in the Bowls at this point.

To break that down you need to see who a conference has beaten and I was not doing that but, could do that later once ALL the games are done.

Right now this is running tab W/L that feel free to add SOS along the way if anyone feels free to do so.
