Well, Gordon's championship run is done. He gets done in again by a stupid system for determining the champion. While he was on his way to his 14th Top 5 finish of the season, Ryan Newman backdoored his way to the finale with another finish outside the Top 10. He had only one more Top 10 (15) than Gordon had Top 5's and only 4 Top 5's. Even in the last three races, Gordon had two second place finishes, but was eliminated because Brad K. sent him in the wall when he was leading on the green-white-checkered finish in the other race. Gordon did everything in those last three races but get a win (which he would have gotten if not for Keselowski). Unbelievably ridiculous. I'm rooting for a Newman "championship" at this point, though Denny Hamlin is more likely and not a lot better.

I guess in the end, Gordon should have just moved over and let Keselowski pass him. 3 second place finishes would have put him into the final along with Harvick, Brad K. (assuming he got the win at Texas) and Logano. Those actually were the 4 best cars for the season (Harvick was a little back in the standings, but he did lead the most laps), so it would have been a much better final race.

If NASCAR had stuck with the system in place where you win based on the best {entire} season, then this would have been Gordon's 7th Championship.

Yep, hopefully history will reflect that reality. Gordon won't catch the King, but he has a strong argument as the second best driver in NASCAR history.

Inspite of itself, the system produced a worthy champion. Hard to argue against Harvick wiht the most laps led on the season and the second most wins. He had the best car much of the year, but a lot of bad luck. Winning the last two races to take home the trophy was definitely championship stuff.

I agree. It seemed to work out okay.
