Anybody else watching this?
I can't quite decide what I think of it yet. I like some things and not others - I guess that is normal!
I like the plot lines so far - wonderfully campy and silly. I like the aliens so far - just the right amount of silliness and slap-together costumes to be classic Dr. Who.
I'm not a big fan of the new Doctor though. Somehow he just doesn't quite to it for me. I want him to be more cool and undercontrol for being a 900 year Time Lord. He seems to be to haphazard and just lucky to me so far. I also don't really like the new Tardis - they make is seem like it's held together with string and gum and he is just lucky to hit any particular event in time and space. The old Tardis was a precision ship.

| I'm not quite sure yet either. I haven't seen any since the aroung the 5th regeneration. The special effects, though weak by todays standards are miles ahead of the old show. |

| Yeah... I put it on my Tivo list but could only get through the first half of the first episode, felt it was lame, and since then it's just been sitting in the memory, deleting when the memory gets full. Maybe I'll give it another chance, but it's nowhere in the same league as SG-1 or BSG. Maybe close to Tripping the Rift, but I haven't watched Dr. Who enough to make a clear comparison, but I don't much like Tripping the Rift anyway. |

I like it a lot so far. I think that they have been pretty true to the prior Doctors. The Doctor doesn't always save the day, sometimes one of his companions does. He makes a lot of mistakes. He is sometimes inept. The Tardis never worked as well as it should have. My guess is that this actor will become more comfortable with the character the longer he plays him, although I hear that he has already been replaced by a new actor and that the current shows in England have the new actor.
A friend of mine who was also a big fan of Dr. Who said once that fans of the show usually like the first Doctor they watch best and I think that is true. I saw the Tom Baker Doctor first and I think he is the best one. |

Yeah, I think you always "love your first Doctor"....
I just saw the episode about the Dalek. Better than some of the first ones, and some fun references to the earlier series in it. I think they need a multi-episode villian like the Daleks - an arc that stretches across many epidsodes, sometimes just in the background, sometimes the main theme.
I think this has some promise, but I'm not sold yet. It's enough to set the DVR for....
I have finally decided the new Battlestar Galactica is OK. Sort of think it might have been better to tell THIS story as a whole different story, and not try to use the same characters (Galactica, Adama, Starbuck, Apollo, etc) to tell a completely different story than the first series.
Dr Who on the other hand has a built in mechanism to "recycle" the Doctor and his companion into new characters and tell whole new stories.... |

I really like this Doctor. I think he captures the spirit of the Doctor very well. He saves the day, but he isn't perfect or powerful.
I saw a story that says there is a new Doctor in the current shows in England and Rose is still the companion. He looks young, 30 at the oldest. Sarah Jane Smith and K-9 are going to be in a few episodes. |
